Programme Description Ionic Cell Signalling is one of the key research themes within the Institute of Molecular and Experimental Medicine. The group has a global reputation for excellence in the study of intra- and intercellular ion and second messenger signalling. We use advanced molecular, imaging and biophysical technologies to investigate the mechanisms underlying dynamic changes in cytosolic ions, second messengers and related signalling proteins, in a range of cellular systems, in order to gain insights into aberrant molecular and cell behaviour that will translate into therapeutic outcomes for disease. The Group is based in the Wales Heart Research Institute and is acknowledged by the major funder of cardiovascular research in the UK (BHF) to be a world-leading cluster of PIs in the field of cardiac Ca2+ signalling.
