Electrical Technician - Industrial (Co-op)

Course Description

This skills-based program prepares you for entry into the electrical skilled trades industry, including apprenticeship. You do not need to be a registered apprentice or have an employer sponsor to start this program. The program provides you with theoretical and practical experience on residential wiring standards and practices, commercial wiring techniques and applications, as well as industrial controls. The field of study also includes the industrial application of power systems, electrical motors, motor controls, generators, transformers, programmable logic controllers, solid-state controls and instrumentation. You will gain advanced knowledge of electrical theory and its application to a variety of practical situations and be well versed in a variety of skills such as troubleshooting electrical systems, quality assurance and testing, and proper meter usage. In addition, safety standards and practices will be consistently used, including generic lock out/tag out procedures. Successful completion of the program will prepare you at a recognized technician level, as well as prepare you to challenge the apprenticeship end-of-level exams.
