The Specialist Journalism postgraduate programme draws on staff and university expertise in selected specialist areas – currently Automotive Journalism, Global Journalism and Health Journalism, and the University’s established industry links in print, broadcast and web journalism. Students will study essential journalism theory, law and ethics, and the practical techniques of research, interviewing, writing, page layout design and audio/video techniques. Key features include a specialist magazine and relevant work experience, providing a real world context to the course.

Career prospects on successful completion of the course include positions within established media/broadcasting organisations in a range of national and global contexts. You can expect to secure positions in newspapers, specialist and trade publications and specialist reporting positions. Opportunities will also exist in emerging broadcast contexts, such as web-based text journalism, web-tv and internet radio.
