BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology

Course Description

In Psychology we describe, explain and predict thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We search for answers to explain: Why do we spend so much time on Facebook? And does playing computer games make you aggressive? If desired, students can choose to exit with a named degree: BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology (Counselling), (Forensic) or (Health), providing specific modules are taken. Modules are taught through various specialist laboratories, seminars and lectures. All students take a work-based learning in psychology module where they relate work experience to psychological theory. There are also opportunities to spend a trimester studying abroad.

Career Options BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology is a new programme and it is anticipated that graduates will secure employment in a range of areas. The applied focus of the degree will help to prepare graduates to become professional psychologists, after postgraduate training, in areas such as clinical, health, counselling and forensic psychology. Some graduates may choose to undertake research and follow an academic career. Many will find their knowledge of psychology useful for pursuing careers in diverse areas such as human resources, the police, marketing, social work, teaching and interactive entertainment. This degree’s unique blend of specialist knowledge and generic skills applied to real life situations will provide its graduates with many of the characteristics sought by potential employers.
