Career outcomes

Toronto is one of North America’s top three financial markets and a leader in professional services in the areas of assurance, audit and tax. As a graduate of Humber’s Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting program you will be able to combine your superior accounting training with a wealth of job opportunities. With this comprehensive degree, you can pursue a career in public accounting firms, government, not-for-profit organizations, major corporations, small businesses and financial institutions as an accountant, budget analyst, taxation specialist, auditor or treasurer. Maybe you’re an entrepreneur at heart. The training you receive at Humber will give you the skills and confidence to set up your own accounting practice or company. It can also prepare you to pursue graduate studies in accounting or related fields. It’s a foundation that allows you to do exactly what you want. It is important to note that there have been major changes in the governing bodies that are accredited to give accounting designations in Ontario. Accounting designations formally referred to as CMA (Certified Management Accountant), CGA (Certified General Accountant), and CA (Chartered Accountant), are now in the process of amalgamation to create one unified accounting designation called the CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant). Each of the three former governing bodies has developed their own transition programs for CPA certification – students already on the path of any accounting designation are encouraged to contact CPA Ontario directly to plan the completion of their designation by the new standards. All students beginning their path toward an accounting designation are required to follow the requirements set out by CPA Ontario.
