BA in European Studies (German pathway) with a year abroad

Course Description

This degree has a tightly structured framework and is split 50/50 between European and International Studies modules and German-specific modules. In each year, half the modules deal with the study of Europe (politics, political economy, political thought, contemporary history, culture, economics, geography, law). The other half focus on the politics,history, language and contemporary culture of Germany. The third year is taught and examined in German at the Humboldt University, Berlin. Departments involved at King's are German, History, The Dickson Poon School of Law, Geography and War Studies. Students can take this programme either with an A-level (or equivalent) in German, or as a beginner, following a specially-designed ab initio language course.

Career outcomes

Graduates from the BA in European Studies have taken up posts with the Foreign Office, with leading financial institutions, with cultural organisations or with lobbying firms at the European Commission. Others have worked in public and private agencies and think-tanks in the UK, as well as further afield in countries ranging from Bosnia to Japan. Many students have undertaken work placements in the media, working for the French newspaper Liberation, the Franco-German TV station Arte and for Radio-France International.
