Master of Speech Pathology

Course Description

Speech pathologists assess, diagnose, treat and provide management and advocacy services to people with communication or swallowing disorders. People with communication disorders may have difficulties in speech, language, voice, fluency, reading and spelling. Applications are open throughout the year. Note also that the course requires full-time enrolment over four semesters (to complete the program within 2 years, international students must study full-time). The Bridging Course commences on 23 January and runs for 4 weeks. Applicants must supply the following information as part of their application: CV, 250 word personal statement and a 250 word Problem Based Learning statement. The Problem Based Learning statement should outline what the applicant's understanding of Problem Based Learning and teaching methodology is, and any experience the applicant has had with this teaching methodology. Please note there is no separate PBL form that needs to be completed; just add your PBL statement to your application form as an additional page. Please provide certified copies of transcripts (whether complete or incomplete) which must include a grading scheme (results interpretation) page.

Career outcomes

Graduates are prepared to practise in hospitals, community health centres, private practice, schools, rehabilitation centres and aged care centres. You may also work in health promotion, teaching and consultancy, and in specialised centres helping people with hearing impairment, cerebral palsy and intellectual disability. You may apply for membership of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.
