The Indigenous Learning program is a dynamic, interdisciplinary, cross-cultural initiative for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students. Borrowing from such subjects as history, geography, anthropology, and sociology, this program will offer you an opportunity to delve into Aboriginal history, culture, and values and gain the necessary skills and knowledge to become active participants in the Aboriginal community. Our Department of Indigenous Learning aspires to create an environment of understanding and trust amongst all Peoples. Through our programs, we aim to enhance the awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal life experiences. As a student, you will learn analytical skills, research techniques, critical thinking, and the ways of the land. We will also encourage you to value the knowledge derived from oral testimony, language, and cultural materials on your journey to develop a true understanding and respect for Aboriginal Peoples and culture. Through this program, you will gain a sense of cultural awareness and an understanding of political issues relative to the Aboriginal community. This knowledge can be applied in a variety of fields; our graduates have gone on to gain employment as teachers, nurses, community development officers, social workers and, perhaps most importantly, community leaders.
