Applicants must meet the following entry requirements: applicants in employment or current voluntary work must have a referee statement from their employer and be employed for a minimum of five hours per week or if seeking voluntary placement, placement applicants must supply two character references of potential to work safely with children in an educational setting, to be signed by a Justice of the Peace or Kaumatua and be prepared to undergo an interview Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following attributes in an interview: motivation to work in education life experience relevant to disability motivation to study at Level 4. Note: applicants may bring family/whanau support to the interview. Have English language competence to undertake this programme, which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 (with no score below 5.5) or equivalent; and be prepared to complete a form of Consent for Disclosure of Information for the New Zealand Police. This is compulsory for students to work in schools and early childhood centres. International students wanting to apply for this programme need to supply a current police check clearance, identical to the current police check clearance document submitted to New Zealand Immigration Services for the purpose of applying for a student or work visa. Please note that the New Zealand Immigration Services only require police check clearance when applying for a visa extending 24 months. Visas less than 24 months are determined on a case by case basis. Students who have attained the age of 20 years and do not hold the minimum entry requirements for a programme will be eligible to be enrolled as a student where their previous educational, work or life experience indicates they have a reasonable likelihood of success. Students who have not attained the age of 20 years and do not hold the required minimum entry requirements for a programme may also be eligible to enrol in exceptional circumstances. Such decisions will be made by the Faculty Dean.
