Bachelor of Physiotherapy Advanced - Research (Honours)

Course Description

The Monash Bachelor of Physiotherapy Advanced – Research (Honours) is an advanced version of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) course, which provides a research pathway for students wishing to take Masters by Research or PhD courses in the future. Students can only be admitted to this course by invitation after their first year of study in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours). The course provides the opportunity to develop research skills beyond the extensive research component that already exists within the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours). If you undertake this course, you will work with a research supervisor throughout the program, and develop accomplished skills in conducting independent research and producing a written thesis. Graduates will be well placed to apply for scholarships to pursue higher degrees by research, obtain formal post-graduate research opportunities, and apply complex research skills in clinical practice. Your training as a physiotherapist and clinical researcher will cover five main areas: personal and professional development; population, society and health; fundamental knowledge required across the health sciences; applied practice; and research. Students are required to participate in off-campus rural and metropolitan clinical placements. In these invaluable clinical settings, you will have the opportunity to apply theory to practice under supervision. You will learn from highly trained and experienced physiotherapists – who are skilled in education and research – and gain exposure to areas in which you could later specialise, such as cardiorespiratory care, gerontology, neurology or musculoskeletal care, arthritis management and rehabilitation after reconstructive or joint-replacement surgery.
