Legal Studies Honours (BA(Hons))

Course Description

The legal system is an integral part of our society and shapes our lives in a multitude of ways. It sets the terms of our employment, provides protection from harm, compensation for injury and even impinges upon our closest relationships with others. Our Legal Studies major will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to explore the role and function of law in society, to understand legal concepts and language, as well as gaining expertise in legal research and reasoning. This major concentrates on a range of social welfare, employment and dispute resolution issues. This major provides an attractive complement to the Business and Arts majors such as Criminology, Security Terrorism, Asian Studies and more. The aim of the Honours year is to extend your grasp of the principles and practice of the subject, to develop ability for independent research, and to facilitate your entry into industry employment. An Honours qualification is normally required for admission to higher research degree study.
