Accountancy as a profession involves recording, classifying, summarising and interpreting financial transactions and events, and is frequently used by lenders, managers, investors, tax authorities and other decision-makers. In this four-year program you will complete a work placement and develop essential skills required to operate successfully in contemporary business and contribute to the future of professionally qualified and broadly trained accountants.

Graduates gain employment in public accounting practices, supporting staff teams in areas such as auditing, taxation, management consulting, business services and receivership. Others are recruited into commercial and government organisations in treasury, internal audit, strategic business planning, financial reporting and management accounting roles. There are good job prospects both pre- and post-graduation. The Department of Education forecasts that employment prospects for accountants to 2017 is expected to grow strongly. Professional recognition and accreditation The Bachelor of Business (Professional Accountancy) is accredited by CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and is recognised by the Institute of Public Accountants. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has recognised the program and awarded credit for modules in their ACA qualification. Graduates wishing to undertake the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) chartered accountancy qualification are eligible to apply for Credit for Prior Learning and may receive credit for Certificate Level modules. Graduates are also eligible to apply for entry and receive exemptions into the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification program.
