Course Description

What is Family Nurse Practitioner ? This program is available either full-time (five semesters) or part-time to qualified applicants. Graduates provide high quality, cost-effective care that results in high levels of patient satisfaction. Family Nurse Practitioners provide care to individuals who are well, or who have common health problems. Responsibilities include monitoring chronic diseases, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, prescribing medications and other treatments, providing health maintenance care across the life span, promoting positive health behaviors through education and counseling, and collaborating with physicians and other health professionals as needed. Courses in the major and the clinical experiences are consistent with national specialty certification requirements. Practicals are with a variety of nurse practitioners and physicians from all specialty areas. Graduates are eligible to take either of the national certification exams for Family Nurse Practitioner certification.
