What is Nurse Anesthesia ? The Nurse Anesthesia program began as the University Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia in 1945. It is the fourth oldest program and ranks in the top 10 nationally. The graduates have a 100% pass rate on their certification examination and a 100% employment rate upon graduation. The program is fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Nurse Anesthesia and is 27 months in length. The curriculum includes content and clinical experiences in general and regional anesthesia techniques. The graduates of the nurse anesthesia program are well prepared for clinical practice since the students receive experiences and anesthesia practice hours well above the minimum requirement. Clinical experiences take place in Cincinnati with students rotating through University Hospital, Veterans Administration Hospital, Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Bethesda Hospital, Mercy Fairfield Hospital and Mercy Anderson Hospital. Approximately 100 Nurse Anesthetists in the community are involved in the clinical education of the anesthesia students. With multiple clinical sites, the students are exposed to various work environments, clinical cases, and techniques.
