Course Description

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing students with a creative, engaging, and flexible program of study that stimulates their intellectual curiosity, prepares them for rewarding careers in a wide range of professions, and encourages them to employ their scientific knowledge in ways that serve the common good of humanity and that respect the diversity of life on our planet. We are large enough to offer variety and quality in both the courses we teach and the research opportunities we provide, but we are small enough to give our students the individual attention they deserve throughout their entire undergraduate career.

Career outcomes

Biology majors are well prepared for an exceptionally wide range of careers and we encourage students to begin exploring their own interests, motivations, and goals as soon as they enter our program. Many of our graduates enter professional schools to train as doctors, dentists, optometrists, or pharmacists. Others have gone to graduate school, obtained M.Sc. or Ph.D. degrees, and are now working in fields such as agricultural biotechnology, environmental law, and medical genetics. Others have become teachers, policy makers, software engineers for medical research companies, and veterinarians. For interested students, rewarding careers beckon in many other professions, including conservation biology, environmental consulting, forensic science, landscape architecture, pharmaceutical sales, and scientific journalism to name just a few.
