Course Description

The Bachelor of Social Science (BSocSc) is a 3-year specialist course of study for students seeking expertise in social science and its application to real issues. It teaches valuable social research methods skills and prepares graduates for careers in a wide range of government, community, health, social justice and business services. Two social science majors are completed in the BSocSc. One of these must be selected from either sociology or public policy, while the other is selected from a choice of eight disciplines: sociology, criminology, public policy, political science, international relations, psychology, human resource management, and geography and environmental studies. The minor is taken from the same eight subject areas as the majors as well as economics and Aboriginal studies. The student electives may be taken from any discipline so long as they fit the degree structure and prerequisites are met. The degree provides an opportunity to develop an innovative program of study, tailored to career interests, while providing a solid foundation in the social sciences.
