Sociology is the study of human relationships and more generally the study of society. It lies at the heart of Social Studies. Sociologists challenge what is normally taken for granted, and ask important questions about who we are as people and how we fit into the world around us: What do different social groups perceive social reality to be and how does every come to know it? How and what do people learn from their parents, peers, elders, teachers, television and the internet? Why does conflict occur in some societies? Who decides what behaviour is acceptable and what is not? How can we best explain the way societies change?
