Course Description

Social Policy deals with issues that affect people and society. It examines the policies and practices of politicians, public servants, governments and non-governmental agencies which have an impact on your local community and/or wider society. Students studying Social Policy will develop a critical understanding of the way policy-making impacts on every person, regardless of age, ethnicity or gender. The subject matter of Social Policy covers all the parts of your everyday life - the systems and institutions that help you keep healthy, get educated, support your family and find housing, for example. It also covers why and how societies respond to problems like poverty or unemployment.
