BA (Hons) Illustration

Course Description

During the first year students will gain individual core skills such as creative thinking, translating a brief, drawing and mark making, and colour theory. Through traditional and digital technologies students will communicate exciting concepts in increasingly innovative ways. Individuals will gain experience in working with clients, and how to establish their role as an illustrator within the creative industries. The second year focuses on the development of illustration in all its forms, from two and three-dimensional media to traditional practice and digital interaction, closely aligned with industry through live project briefs. Opportunities for collaborative working across disciplines within the Faculty of Creative Industries are integral to this year, and enable students to build networks that enhance learning and employability. Options for European and overseas exchange are available to eligible students. In the final year students will prepare for employment through the production of a professional portfolio, entry to a major illustration competition, engagement with a critical research project and completion of a final major project to industry standard.
