If you follow the Major award, you will study calculus, algebra, fundamentals of mathematics, and probability and statistics in your first year. Then in your second and third years, you can choose areas that best suit your interests and career goals. These include abstract and linear algebra, combinatorics and network flows, management science, statistical inference, financial modelling, codes and information, cryptography and information security, financial mathematics, history and development of mathematics, non-linear systems and mathematical biology, and operational research.

Graduates will find employment in the many branches of industry, commerce and government. The Major course is also suitable for prospective teachers of Mathematics.
