Course Description

To ensure you have a good understanding of how public and emergency services operate, you will study a number of core modules. These include Planning and Operations, where you will be expected to put your leadership skills to the test. You will also study how public and emergency services operate and gain practical skills in planning and operational management. Here you will develop team-working skills and plan, prepare and carry out an outward bounds expedition in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Another exciting area covered on the course is emergencies, disasters and transport, where you will review how governments, emergency services and charities plan, co-ordinate and react to the aftermath of a disaster. In addition to the core modules, you will have the chance to choose options in line with your career aspirations. Career prospects By the time you complete this course, you will have skills relevant to the public service environment, including leadership skills, the ability to solve problems, evaluate and interpret evidence, make reasoned arguments, present information, and work as part of a team. Many of our graduates have used this course as a route into the police and fire services. It is also a valuable qualification if you want a career in the ambulance service, the armed forces, prison and security services, HM Customs and Excise, or community service organisations. By successfully completing this course, you will have the option to progress to the final year of the BA (Hons) Public Services course at the University, where your studies will focus on developing your employability skills, giving you an advantage in today’s competitive employment market.
