The midwifery endorsement will be relevant to practitioners from a wide range of midwifery contexts. The Postgraduate Certificate in Midwifery is designed to enable midwives to develop knowledge and capabilities to maximise their own midwifery practice within situations of complexity, and the changing demographics of women and social infrastructure within society. As students of the PGDipHlthSocPrac, graduates will have developed a range of flexible skills and expertise which will position them well to be responsive as clinicians and leaders. The midwifery endorsement will facilitate graduates to promote early detection and appropriate management of maternal, foetal and neonatal well-being. The midwifery endorsement supports Midwifery Council of New Zealand’s elective education and professional activity section of recertification requirements. Completion of post graduate study will contribute to Midwifery Council of New Zealand elective education points within the recertification process Completion of 30 credits of postgraduate study enables midwives to gain 40 Midwifery Council points of elective approved continuing education in their Midwifery Council portfolio. Depending on the selection of modules, graduates who successfully complete the PGDipHlthSocPrac (Midwifery) with a B grade are eligible to apply to Wintec’s 180-point Master of Professional Practice (under development and subject to NZQA approval) or to a New Zealand Master of Midwifery programme.
