Design Technology: Human Environment

Course Description

This course looks at the way humans interface with interior design. Students begin by looking at some political and social ideas as they relate to interior design; post industrialism, post colonialism and biculturalism. Environmental issues and sustainability are also covered in this course. Students will gain an understanding of some of the requirements of special needs groups. Some of the intangible aspects of interior design are examined; the psycho-social issues around privacy perception, personal space, territoriality and way finding. Students will learn about some of the wider roles and responsibilities of design professionals.
