Course Description

This is a bachelor degree program leading to careers in the oil and gas industry, in particular the offshore industry, coastal and environmental engineering, marine consultancy firms and ocean research organisations. As an AMC student you will have access to world-class research facilities as part of the Australian Maritime Hydrodynamics Research Centre; and students in this programme will also undertake a voyage on the AMC's 35m vessel Bluefin in their 3rd year. At NCMEH we believe that integrating practical projects into the degree programmes is a vital mechanism for improving the learning experience for our students. The use of practical exercises assists students establish a thorough understanding of engineering theories, as well as developing generic skills such as team work, communication and professionalism. The Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering) was developed to serve the needs of the Australian offshore oil and gas engineering, coastal and subsea engineering, and related industries by providing professional engineers specifically educated in the field. It is currently the only such undergraduate program in Australia. AMC makes use of its uniquely maritime focus and its wide variety of specialist facilities to produce graduates with a strong "hands on" approach to complement their theoretical studies, and endeavours to emphasise the novel aspects of ocean engineering associated with developments in deeper waters.

Career outcomes

The course prepares students for careers in offshore oil and gas engineering and design, construction, installation and operation, as well as careers with engineering consultancy firms specialising in coastal and subsea engineering, port and harbour design and environmental marine engineering in general.
